Labour market- & Entrepreneurship-oriented Teaching
CEPU offers various training opportunities to strengthen professional skills as well as to acquaint oneself with new teaching methods. These include short-term (10 days) and long-term Job-Shadowing (2 months) opportunities.
Job-Shadowing is offered to employees from all areas of Kenyatta University and Mount Kenya University. During the Job-Shadowing they will visit another person, unit or institute of one of the four German partner universities of CEPU with the aim of exchanging professional experiences with the colleagues in Germany. This allows them to acquire international skills in their respective professional field (both on the Kenyan and the German side) and, at best, to familiarise themselves with other teaching methods (if they are involved in teaching).
My job shadowing experience provided me with additional skills on didactical approaches that are learner centered. I learnt how to engage students as they learn and construct new knowledge through the various pedagogical techniques such as simulation and project-based learning. I had an opportunity to use the learning management system and engage with experienced faculty on current practices. It was rewarding to participate in virtual conferences with students and staff from different parts of the world, thus developing multicultural communication skills and competencies. I thank Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences for this opportunity and look forward to future engagement.

It’s like encountering a different species all together and starting school afresh – I got to learn so much, not only about the difference in culture, but the experience also sharpened a sense of responsibility and owning up for whatever I set my heart to do, a firm sense of time management unlike the African timing I was raised up in, coupled with team-work in a simple setting. Moreover, it was really inspiring working hand-in-hand with diverse German students who had the chance to both study and work under the same project!

My Job-Shadowing experience at ICCAS was amazing, I learnt a lot, the team was very receptive, welcoming and accommodating. The ongoing and past researches in my opinion will/are changing the field of medicine for the better, truly pioneering work. I would like further interactions between my university – Mount Kenya University and ICCAS in terms of mutually beneficial research activities. Our College of Research and Post graduate studies is positively considering forging such a Memorandum of Understanding.

My two weeks Job-Shadowing stay in Germany, a country having a totally different weather, cultural heritage, and pace of living was totally awesome. First the clean cities, very nice people and a systematic and efficient transport system. Leuphana University was awesome with very nice people who were always ready to help in every small bit with a smile whenever you asked. I learnt a lot about the history of Germany thanks to our knowledgeable tour guides in both Hamburg and Berlin tours. I had different German cuisines, thanks to Elisabeth, Janina and Paulina (dinners), in addition to the awesome work ideas we shared at the office. That was an experience of a lifetime!!!
